Recent Agreements Reached to protect Duck River from increased water withdrawal
The Tennessee Wildlife Federation recently settled with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) on issues regarding water withdrawal permits issues to Bedford County Utility District and Duck River Utility Commission. Why is this important? Duck River is a hotspot for outdoor recreation in Middle Tennessee, as well as home to over 500 species of aquatic plants, fish, and invertebrates. The biodiversity contained within this 284 mile body of water is worth protection.
This settlement was aimed at limiting water discharged from utility companies, preventing contamination of the ecosystem. Another step in the right direction!
